Prayer Times in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Phnom Penh prayer times explained

Between the last prayer of one day and the first of the next, Phnom Penh gets roughly 9 hours and 32 minutes of darkness. The whole timetable below follows the same movement — as the nights lengthen, every time on the page moves with them.

For tahajjud

Between Isha at 7:06 pm and Fajr at 4:38 am there are about 9 hours and 32 minutes. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

A note on the method used

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.

The fasting day in Phnom Penh

The fasting day here runs 4:38 am to 5:36 pm: suhoor closes at the first, iftar comes at the second. Today it works out to some 12 hours and 58 minutes. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

Through the year

Near the equator the timetable is remarkably stable. Phnom Penh sees close to twelve hours of daylight in every month, so Fajr and Maghrib move by minutes rather than hours across the year.

Finding the qibla

The qibla from here runs west-north-west, a bearing of about 288°. The distance works out to about 6,982 kilometres, or 4,338 miles. Compass apps usually read magnetic north rather than true north, so allow a few degrees of local declination if you are setting a prayer mat precisely.

The shape of the day

Fajr is at 4:38 am — early, and in darkness. Sunrise at 5:52 am closes that window. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 11:44 am, and Asr at 3:59 pm. Maghrib comes with sunset at 5:36 pm, and Isha closes the day at 7:06 pm. Around 11 hours and 44 minutes of daylight, all told.
