Prayer Times in Montevideo, Uruguay

The prayer day in Montevideo

If you are fasting in Montevideo right now, you are in for a long one. Today the fast runs from 4:11 am to 7:12 pm — about 15 hours and 1 minutes — and the monthly table below shows how that eases week by week.

Finding the qibla

From this city the direction is east-north-east, or 75° if you prefer the number. Makkah is around 11,876 kilometres (7,379 miles) away in a straight line.

A walk through today's times

Fajr is at 4:11 am — early, and in darkness. The window stays open until sunrise, 5:46 am. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 12:28 pm, and Asr at 5:15 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 7:12 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 8:42 pm. That gives Montevideo roughly 13 hours and 26 minutes of daylight today.

The clock against the sun

True midday in Montevideo arrives some 28 minutes after what the clock reads. That is why Dhuhr sits at 12:28 pm rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

The calculation behind them

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.

Through the year

Across the year the Montevideo timetable shifts by an hour or two at each end — long summer evenings push Isha back, short winter days crowd Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib together.
