Prayer Times in Medan, Indonesia

The prayer day in Medan

There are around 9 hours and 17 minutes between Isha and Fajr in Medan just now. Everything else on this page hangs off the same two points: when the sun sets and when it comes back.

If you are fasting

Stop eating by 4:56 am; break the fast at 6:09 pm. That is about 13 hours and 13 minutes on today's times. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Turn west-north-west, about 293°, for the qibla. Makkah is around 6,646 kilometres (4,130 miles) away in a straight line.

Medan today, prayer by prayer

Everything begins with Fajr, 4:56 am today. Sunrise at 6:09 am closes that window. Dhuhr 12:09 pm, Asr 4:29 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib is prayed at 6:09 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:39 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 12 hours.

Through the year

Medan is close enough to the equator that the seasons barely register in the prayer times. Longest day and shortest day differ by very little, and Ramadan feels much the same whichever month it lands in.

The last third of the night

Between Isha at 7:39 pm and Fajr at 4:56 am there are about 9 hours and 17 minutes. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

A note on the method used

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.
