Prayer Times in Mosul, Iraq

Mosul, hour by hour

Mosul currently has about 10 hours and 16 minutes of night, from Isha at 6:43 pm through to Fajr at 4:59 am. The whole timetable below follows the same movement — as the nights lengthen, every time on the page moves with them.

The yearly swing

Summer and winter look like different timetables entirely in Mosul. The times can shift by several hours between the two ends of the year.

Elsewhere in Iraq

Iraq has 4 other cities covered on this site. It is worth switching to the right one when you travel — a few hundred kilometres east or west moves Fajr and Maghrib by a noticeable margin.

If you are fasting

Stop eating by 4:59 am; break the fast at 5:13 pm. That is about 12 hours and 14 minutes on today's times. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The direction of prayer

Turn south-south-west, about 192°, for the qibla. That puts the Kaaba roughly 1,692 km — 1,051 miles — from here. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

The shape of the day

The first call comes at 4:59 am, for Fajr. By 6:28 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Dhuhr follows at 11:51 am once the sun has tipped past its highest point, and Asr at 3:35 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 5:13 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 6:43 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 45 minutes.

Method and madhab

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.
