Prayer Times in Shetpe, Kazakhstan

Shetpe, hour by hour

The times below are worked out for Shetpe itself, from the city's own coordinates (44.13° N, 52.15° E). Sunrise and sunset shift by a few minutes between neighbouring towns, and the prayer times move with them.

Method and madhab

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

3 other cities in Kazakhstan are listed on this site, each with its own calculated timetable. The list under the timetable below will take you to any of them.

Fasting hours

Stop eating by 6:24 am; break the fast at 6:26 pm. That is about 12 hours and 2 minutes on today's times. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

What changes between summer and winter

The yearly swing here is substantial. In June, Fajr in Shetpe can fall in the small hours with Isha holding off until late evening; in December the whole day from Fajr to Isha is over in a short span. Check the monthly timetable rather than assuming last season's times still hold.

The direction of prayer

Turn south-south-west, about 208°, for the qibla. Makkah is around 2,768 kilometres (1,720 miles) away in a straight line.

A walk through today's times

Everything begins with Fajr, 6:24 am today. Sunrise at 8:04 am closes that window. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 1:15 pm, and Asr at 4:43 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 6:26 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:56 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 22 minutes.

The clock against the sun

Solar noon in Shetpe falls about 75 minutes after twelve o'clock. That is why Dhuhr sits at 1:15 pm rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.
