Prayer Times in Barcelona, Spain

About the times on this page

There are around 10 hours and 31 minutes between sunrise and sunset in Barcelona today. That number is the one driving the whole timetable: lengthen the day and Isha moves back, shorten it and the afternoon prayers crowd together.

The last third of the night

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 23 minutes at the moment. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

Through the year

The yearly swing here is substantial. In June, Fajr in Barcelona can fall in the small hours with Isha holding off until late evening; in December the whole day from Fajr to Isha is over in a short span. Check the monthly timetable rather than assuming last season's times still hold.

The fasting day in Barcelona

Suhoor closes at 5:43 am in Barcelona, with iftar at 5:50 pm. Roughly 12 hours and 7 minutes, going by today's figures. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

How the times are worked out

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.

From Fajr to Isha

Fajr opens the day at 5:43 am, well before first light. You have until 7:19 am, when the sun comes up. Midday brings Dhuhr at 12:35 pm; Asr comes round at 4:09 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 5:50 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:20 pm. That gives Barcelona roughly 10 hours and 31 minutes of daylight today.

Clock time and solar time

True midday in Barcelona arrives some 35 minutes after what the clock reads. It explains the 12:35 pm Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

The direction of prayer

From this city the direction is east-south-east, or 111° if you prefer the number. Makkah is around 4,158 kilometres (2,584 miles) away in a straight line.
