Prayer Times in Villena, Spain

The prayer day in Villena

Villena, Spain gets its own calculation here, run from the coordinates 38.64° N, 0.87° W rather than borrowed from a larger city nearby. Two towns an hour apart see the sun rise at different moments, and since Fajr and Maghrib follow the sun rather than the clock, those minutes carry straight through to the timetable.

The qibla from here runs east-south-east, a bearing of about 104°. The distance works out to about 4,314 kilometres, or 2,680 miles. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.

How much the times move

Summer and winter look like different timetables entirely in Villena. The times can shift by several hours between the two ends of the year.

A quirk of the timezone

The sun reaches its high point roughly 47 minutes after noon here. Hence Dhuhr at 12:47 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

The calculation behind them

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.
