Prayer Times in Madrid, Spain

Madrid prayer times explained

Prayer times for Madrid, Spain are calculated from where the city actually is (40.42° N, 3.70° W), which matters more than people expect. The difference between one town and the next is only minutes, but those minutes are the whole of Fajr and Maghrib.

Today's timetable

The first call comes at 6:08 am, for Fajr. The window stays open until sunrise, 7:42 am. Midday brings Dhuhr at 12:58 pm; Asr comes round at 4:34 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 6:14 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:44 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 32 minutes.

The fasting day in Madrid

Stop eating by 6:08 am; break the fast at 6:14 pm. That is about 12 hours and 6 minutes on today's times. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

The calculation behind them

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

The clock against the sun

True midday in Madrid arrives some 58 minutes after what the clock reads. That is why Dhuhr sits at 12:58 pm rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Turn east-south-east, about 104°, for the qibla. The distance works out to about 4,598 kilometres, or 2,857 miles.

How much the times move

Madrid sees a large seasonal spread — very early summer Fajr times, a very late Isha, then a tightly packed winter day. The month view below is the reliable way to keep track.
