Prayer Times in Chichester, United Kingdom

Chichester prayer times explained

Chichester sits at 50.84° N, 0.78° W, and the timetable here is built from that position rather than a national average. A city an hour down the road will have times a few minutes apart from these, which is exactly why a country-wide timetable is a rough guide at best.

For tahajjud

Between Isha at 6:06 pm and Fajr at 5:01 am there are about 10 hours and 55 minutes. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

How the day runs in Chichester

The first call comes at 5:01 am, for Fajr. The window stays open until sunrise, 6:56 am. Dhuhr 11:47 am, Asr 2:48 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib is prayed at 4:36 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 6:06 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 9 hours and 40 minutes.

The yearly swing

There is a caveat to the summer timetable in Chichester. For several weeks around the solstice the sun does not dip deep enough for a true Fajr or Isha, and the calculated values become estimates. Local scholarly guidance takes over in that period.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Turn east-south-east, about 118°, for the qibla. The distance works out to about 4,798 kilometres, or 2,982 miles. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.

Fasting hours

Stop eating by 5:01 am; break the fast at 4:36 pm. That is about 11 hours and 35 minutes on today's times. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

How the times are worked out

Calculations come from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.
