Prayer Times in Hitachi, Japan

Hitachi, hour by hour

As things stand today, the first prayer in Hitachi is at 4:29 am and the last at 6:13 pm. They are not fixed — the sun moves them a little every day, and the page keeps up on its own.

Finding the qibla

Face west-north-west — roughly 293° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. The distance works out to about 9,514 kilometres, or 5,912 miles. Compass apps usually read magnetic north rather than true north, so allow a few degrees of local declination if you are setting a prayer mat precisely.

Fasting hours

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 4:29 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 4:43 pm. Around 12 hours and 14 minutes without food or water today. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

How the times are worked out

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

From Fajr to Isha

The first call comes at 4:29 am, for Fajr. You have until 5:58 am, when the sun comes up. Dhuhr follows at 11:21 am once the sun has tipped past its highest point, and Asr at 3:05 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 4:43 pm; Isha is the last, at 6:13 pm. That is some 10 hours and 45 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

A quirk of the timezone

True midday in Hitachi arrives some 39 minutes before what the clock reads. It explains the 11:21 am Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

For tahajjud

Hitachi gets roughly 10 hours and 16 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

Through the year

Hitachi sees a large seasonal spread — very early summer Fajr times, a very late Isha, then a tightly packed winter day. The month view below is the reliable way to keep track.
