Prayer Times in Kazan, Russia

About the times on this page

Anyone who has prayed a full year in Kazan knows the timetable here is a moving target. Midsummer stretches the day at both ends until Fajr and Isha nearly meet, while midwinter squeezes all five prayers into a few hours of light.

From Fajr to Isha

Everything begins with Fajr, 4:36 am today. The window stays open until sunrise, 6:45 am. Dhuhr 11:27 am, Asr 2:17 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Sunset brings Maghrib at 4:08 pm; Isha is the last, at 5:38 pm. That is some 9 hours and 23 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

Ramadan timings

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 4:36 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 4:08 pm. Around 11 hours and 32 minutes without food or water today. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

Which way to face in Kazan

Face south-south-west — roughly 195° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. Makkah is around 3,898 kilometres (2,422 miles) away in a straight line.

Where these times come from

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

The clock against the sun

Solar noon in Kazan falls about 33 minutes before twelve o'clock. It explains the 11:27 am Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.
