Prayer Times in Saint Petersburg, Russia

The prayer day in Saint Petersburg

The times below are worked out for Saint Petersburg itself, from the city's own coordinates (59.95° N, 30.32° E). Two towns an hour apart see the sun rise at different moments, and since Fajr and Maghrib follow the sun rather than the clock, those minutes carry straight through to the timetable.

From Fajr to Isha

The day's first prayer, Fajr, falls at 5:49 am. By 8:15 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Next is Dhuhr at 12:42 pm, then Asr in the afternoon at 3:13 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 5:08 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 6:38 pm. That gives Saint Petersburg roughly 8 hours and 53 minutes of daylight today.

What changes between summer and winter

Saint Petersburg is far enough north that calculated Fajr and Isha times become unreliable around midsummer, when twilight lasts all night. Most communities this far up adopt a local ruling for those weeks; ask at your mosque. Outside that stretch, the ordinary calculation applies.

The clock against the sun

True midday in Saint Petersburg arrives some 42 minutes after what the clock reads. Hence Dhuhr at 12:42 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

Ramadan timings

Suhoor closes at 5:49 am in Saint Petersburg, with iftar at 5:08 pm. Roughly 11 hours and 19 minutes, going by today's figures. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The direction of prayer

From this city the direction is south-south-east, or 166° if you prefer the number. That puts the Kaaba roughly 4,349 km — 2,702 miles — from here.

Where these times come from

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.
