Prayer Times in Novosibirsk, Russia

Novosibirsk, hour by hour

Novosibirsk sits at an awkward spot inside its timezone, and the prayer times show it. True midday arrives some 72 minutes after what the clock reads, putting Dhuhr at 1:12 pm and dragging Asr, Maghrib and Isha along behind it.

The direction of prayer

The qibla from here runs west-south-west, a bearing of about 241°. Makkah is around 5,166 kilometres (3,210 miles) away in a straight line.

How the day runs in Novosibirsk

The day's first prayer, Fajr, falls at 6:21 am. You have until 8:27 am, when the sun comes up. Dhuhr 1:12 pm, Asr 4:04 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib comes with sunset at 5:56 pm, and Isha closes the day at 7:26 pm. Around 9 hours and 29 minutes of daylight, all told.

How the times are worked out

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.

The fasting day in Novosibirsk

The fasting day here runs 6:21 am to 5:56 pm: suhoor closes at the first, iftar comes at the second. Today it works out to some 11 hours and 35 minutes. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

The last third of the night

Between Isha at 7:26 pm and Fajr at 6:21 am there are about 10 hours and 55 minutes. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

Season by season in Novosibirsk

There is a caveat to the summer timetable in Novosibirsk. For several weeks around the solstice the sun does not dip deep enough for a true Fajr or Isha, and the calculated values become estimates. Local scholarly guidance takes over in that period.
