Prayer Times in Lyon, France

Prayer times in Lyon

Lyon currently has about 10 hours and 37 minutes of night, from Isha at 6:59 pm through to Fajr at 5:36 am. That span is what the last third of the night is measured against, so it shifts along with the rest of the timetable through the year.

Elsewhere in France

There are 18 more France cities here, and each has its own times rather than sharing Lyon's. It is worth switching to the right one when you travel — a few hundred kilometres east or west moves Fajr and Maghrib by a noticeable margin.

The last third of the night

Lyon gets roughly 10 hours and 37 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

The yearly swing

Lyon sees a large seasonal spread — very early summer Fajr times, a very late Isha, then a tightly packed winter day. The month view below is the reliable way to keep track.

Ramadan timings

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 5:36 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 5:29 pm. Around 11 hours and 53 minutes without food or water today. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

Which way to face in Lyon

Face east-south-east — roughly 119° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. That puts the Kaaba roughly 4,166 km — 2,589 miles — from here.

A note on the method used

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

A walk through today's times

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 5:36 am. The window stays open until sunrise, 7:19 am. Next is Dhuhr at 12:24 pm, then Asr in the afternoon at 3:45 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 5:29 pm; Isha is the last, at 6:59 pm. That is some 10 hours and 10 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.
