Prayer Times in Pontchâteau, France

About the times on this page

These are Pontchâteau's own prayer times, not a regional approximation — they come from the coordinates 47.44° N, 2.09° W. The difference between one town and the next is only minutes, but those minutes are the whole of Fajr and Maghrib.

The yearly swing

The yearly swing here is substantial. In June, Fajr in Pontchâteau can fall in the small hours with Isha holding off until late evening; in December the whole day from Fajr to Isha is over in a short span. Check the monthly timetable rather than assuming last season's times still hold.

The last third of the night

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 38 minutes at the moment. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

Clock time and solar time

True midday in Pontchâteau arrives some 52 minutes after what the clock reads. Hence Dhuhr at 12:52 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

Where these times come from

Calculations come from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.
