Prayer Times in Manambondro, Madagascar

Manambondro, hour by hour

One thing to keep in mind about Manambondro: the seasons run opposite to most prayer timetables published online. December and January bring the long days here, while June and July are the short ones — the reverse of what most published guidance assumes.

How the times are worked out

Calculations come from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

Why Dhuhr lands where it does

True midday in Manambondro arrives some 27 minutes before what the clock reads. It explains the 11:33 am Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

From Fajr to Isha

Everything begins with Fajr, 3:42 am today. You have until 5:04 am, when the sun comes up. Dhuhr 11:33 am, Asr 4:09 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Sunset brings Maghrib at 6:03 pm; Isha is the last, at 7:33 pm. That is some 12 hours and 59 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Face north — roughly 350° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. Makkah is around 5,097 kilometres (3,167 miles) away in a straight line. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

The fasting day in Manambondro

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 3:42 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 6:03 pm. Around 14 hours and 21 minutes without food or water today. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.
