Prayer Times in Vinanitelo, Madagascar

Prayer times in Vinanitelo

Being south of the equator, Vinanitelo has its long fasting days and its short ones in the opposite months to Europe or South Asia. December and January bring the long days here, while June and July are the short ones — the reverse of what most published guidance assumes.

Isha to Fajr

Between Isha at 7:29 pm and Fajr at 3:45 am there are about 8 hours and 16 minutes. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

The shape of the day

Fajr is at 3:45 am — early, and in darkness. You have until 5:06 am, when the sun comes up. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 11:33 am, and Asr at 4:05 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 5:59 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:29 pm. That gives Vinanitelo roughly 12 hours and 53 minutes of daylight today.

The calculation behind them

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.

Suhoor and iftar in Vinanitelo

Suhoor closes at 3:45 am in Vinanitelo, with iftar at 5:59 pm. Roughly 14 hours and 14 minutes, going by today's figures. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The clock against the sun

The sun reaches its high point roughly 27 minutes before noon here. It explains the 11:33 am Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

Finding the qibla

From this city the direction is north, or 349° if you prefer the number. That puts the Kaaba roughly 4,906 km — 3,048 miles — from here.
