Prayer Times in Baojishi, China

Prayer times in Baojishi

There are around 10 hours and 47 minutes between sunrise and sunset in Baojishi today. That number is the one driving the whole timetable: lengthen the day and Isha moves back, shorten it and the afternoon prayers crowd together.

The yearly swing

Across the year the Baojishi timetable shifts by an hour or two at each end — long summer evenings push Isha back, short winter days crowd Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib together.

If you are fasting

Finding the qibla

From this city the direction is west, or 277° if you prefer the number. The distance works out to about 6,656 kilometres, or 4,136 miles. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.

A quirk of the timezone

Solar noon in Baojishi falls about 35 minutes after twelve o'clock. That is why Dhuhr sits at 12:35 pm rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

From Fajr to Isha

Fajr opens the day at 5:44 am, well before first light. The sun appears at 7:11 am, which ends the Fajr period. Dhuhr 12:35 pm, Asr 4:20 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 5:58 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:28 pm. That gives Baojishi roughly 10 hours and 47 minutes of daylight today.

How the times are worked out

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.
