Prayer Times in Dazhou, China

Praying in Dazhou

The direction of prayer from Dazhou is west, or 279° if you are using a compass app. That is roughly 6,732 kilometres in a straight line. The times themselves are worked out from the city's exact position.

How much the times move

Dazhou sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.

The clock against the sun

The sun reaches its high point roughly 34 minutes after noon here. That is why Dhuhr sits at 12:34 pm rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

Fasting hours

Suhoor closes at 5:39 am in Dazhou, with iftar at 6:03 pm. Roughly 12 hours and 24 minutes, going by today's figures. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

How the day runs in Dazhou

Fajr opens the day at 5:39 am, well before first light. By 7:04 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Midday brings Dhuhr at 12:34 pm; Asr comes round at 4:26 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 6:03 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:33 pm. That gives Dazhou roughly 10 hours and 59 minutes of daylight today.

Isha to Fajr

Dazhou gets roughly 10 hours and 6 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

Where these times come from

Calculations come from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.
