Prayer Times in Chengdu, China

Chengdu, hour by hour

There are around 10 hours and 7 minutes between Isha and Fajr in Chengdu just now. The whole timetable below follows the same movement — as the nights lengthen, every time on the page moves with them.

Fasting hours

The fasting day here runs 5:54 am to 6:17 pm: suhoor closes at the first, iftar comes at the second. Today it works out to some 12 hours and 23 minutes. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

Clock time and solar time

Solar noon in Chengdu falls about 47 minutes after twelve o'clock. Hence Dhuhr at 12:47 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

Season by season in Chengdu

Across the year the Chengdu timetable shifts by an hour or two at each end — long summer evenings push Isha back, short winter days crowd Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib together.

Chengdu today, prayer by prayer

Fajr is at 5:54 am — early, and in darkness. You have until 7:17 am, when the sun comes up. Midday brings Dhuhr at 12:47 pm; Asr comes round at 4:40 pm. Maghrib comes with sunset at 6:17 pm, and Isha closes the day at 7:47 pm. Around 11 hours of daylight, all told.

The direction of prayer

The qibla from here runs west, a bearing of about 277°. Makkah is around 6,416 kilometres (3,987 miles) away in a straight line.

The last third of the night

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 7 minutes at the moment. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

How the times are worked out

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.
