Prayer Times in Jianguang, China

What these times mean for Jianguang

From Jianguang, the qibla points west-north-west — a bearing of about 283° on a compass. That is roughly 7,582 kilometres in a straight line. The times themselves are worked out from the city's exact position.

A note on the method used

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

The shape of the day

Everything begins with Fajr, 5:05 am today. By 6:27 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Midday brings Dhuhr at 12:01 pm; Asr comes round at 3:58 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 5:34 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:04 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 11 hours and 7 minutes.

How much the times move

Jianguang sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.

For tahajjud

Jianguang gets roughly 10 hours and 1 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

If you are fasting

Stop eating by 5:05 am; break the fast at 5:34 pm. That is about 12 hours and 29 minutes on today's times. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.
