Prayer Times in Magitang, China

Prayer times in Magitang

People new to Magitang tend to notice the same thing — midday on the clock is nowhere near midday in the sky. The sun reaches its highest point roughly 56 minutes after noon, which is why Dhuhr is listed at 12:56 pm.

Finding the qibla

Turn west, about 273°, for the qibla. The distance works out to about 6,176 kilometres, or 3,837 miles. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

How the times are worked out

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

Ramadan timings

Stop eating by 6:03 am; break the fast at 6:19 pm. That is about 12 hours and 16 minutes on today's times. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

Magitang today, prayer by prayer

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 6:03 am. By 7:32 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Dhuhr 12:56 pm, Asr 4:40 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib is prayed at 6:19 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:49 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 47 minutes.

How much the times move

The yearly swing here is substantial. In June, Fajr in Magitang can fall in the small hours with Isha holding off until late evening; in December the whole day from Fajr to Isha is over in a short span. Check the monthly timetable rather than assuming last season's times still hold.

The night in between

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 14 minutes at the moment. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.
