Turn west, about 272°, for the qibla. That puts the Kaaba roughly 6,150 km — 3,821 miles — from here. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

Season by season in Xining

The yearly swing here is substantial. In June, Fajr in Xining can fall in the small hours with Isha holding off until late evening; in December the whole day from Fajr to Isha is over in a short span. Check the monthly timetable rather than assuming last season's times still hold.

Why Dhuhr lands where it does

Solar noon in Xining falls about 57 minutes after twelve o'clock. It explains the 12:57 pm Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

From Fajr to Isha

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 6:04 am. You have until 7:34 am, when the sun comes up. Next is Dhuhr at 12:57 pm, then Asr in the afternoon at 4:40 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 6:19 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:49 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 45 minutes.

Method and madhab

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

The fasting day in Xining

Stop eating by 6:04 am; break the fast at 6:19 pm. That is about 12 hours and 15 minutes on today's times. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

The night in between

Xining gets roughly 10 hours and 15 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.
