Prayer Times in Munich, Germany

Munich, hour by hour

Anyone who has prayed a full year in Munich knows the timetable here is a moving target. Midsummer stretches the day at both ends until Fajr and Isha nearly meet, while midwinter squeezes all five prayers into a few hours of light.

Fasting hours

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 5:07 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 4:58 pm. Around 11 hours and 51 minutes without food or water today. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

From Fajr to Isha

The first call comes at 5:07 am, for Fajr. You have until 6:56 am, when the sun comes up. Midday brings Dhuhr at 11:57 am; Asr comes round at 3:13 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 4:58 pm; Isha is the last, at 6:28 pm. That is some 10 hours and 2 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Face south-east — roughly 130° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. The distance works out to about 3,891 kilometres, or 2,418 miles.

Isha to Fajr

Munich gets roughly 10 hours and 39 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

How the times are worked out

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.
