How the times are worked out

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

Trittau today, prayer by prayer

The first call comes at 5:12 am, for Fajr. The window stays open until sunrise, 7:14 am. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 12:02 pm, and Asr at 2:59 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 4:49 pm; Isha is the last, at 6:19 pm. That is some 9 hours and 35 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

Qibla from Trittau

Face south-east — roughly 134° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. Makkah is around 4,358 kilometres (2,708 miles) away in a straight line. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

For tahajjud

Trittau gets roughly 10 hours and 53 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

Fasting hours

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 5:12 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 4:49 pm. Around 11 hours and 37 minutes without food or water today. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.
