Lining up with the Kaaba

From this city the direction is south-east, or 133° if you prefer the number. Makkah is around 4,057 kilometres (2,521 miles) away in a straight line. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

The shape of the day

Fajr is at 5:05 am — early, and in darkness. The window stays open until sunrise, 6:59 am. Next is Dhuhr at 11:56 am, then Asr in the afternoon at 3:06 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 4:54 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 6:24 pm. That gives Schleiz roughly 9 hours and 55 minutes of daylight today.

Season by season in Schleiz

Schleiz is far enough north that calculated Fajr and Isha times become unreliable around midsummer, when twilight lasts all night. Most communities this far up adopt a local ruling for those weeks; ask at your mosque. Outside that stretch, the ordinary calculation applies.

The fasting day in Schleiz

Suhoor closes at 5:05 am in Schleiz, with iftar at 4:54 pm. Roughly 11 hours and 49 minutes, going by today's figures. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

For tahajjud

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 41 minutes at the moment. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.

How the times are worked out

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.
