Prayer Times in Araripe, Brazil

What these times mean for Araripe

Praying in Araripe means facing a point roughly 9,263 kilometres off, around the curve of the world. The bearing works out to roughly 67°, or east-north-east — a great-circle direction, not the one you would draw on a flat map.

The yearly swing

Araripe is close enough to the equator that the seasons barely register in the prayer times. Longest day and shortest day differ by very little, and Ramadan feels much the same whichever month it lands in.

A quirk of the timezone

The sun reaches its high point roughly 36 minutes before noon here. Hence Dhuhr at 11:24 am, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

Suhoor and iftar in Araripe

The fasting day here runs 3:59 am to 5:35 pm: suhoor closes at the first, iftar comes at the second. Today it works out to some 13 hours and 36 minutes. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

For tahajjud

Between Isha at 7:05 pm and Fajr at 3:59 am there are about 8 hours and 54 minutes. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

A walk through today's times

Fajr opens the day at 3:59 am, well before first light. The window stays open until sunrise, 5:13 am. Dhuhr follows at 11:24 am once the sun has tipped past its highest point, and Asr at 3:47 pm. Maghrib comes with sunset at 5:35 pm, and Isha closes the day at 7:05 pm. Around 12 hours and 22 minutes of daylight, all told.

Method and madhab

Calculations come from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.
