Prayer Times in Pesqueira, Brazil

Praying in Pesqueira

Pesqueira is in the southern hemisphere, which turns the usual seasonal advice upside down. The longest days fall around the turn of the year rather than midsummer, so northern-hemisphere advice gets the season backwards for anyone here.

The clock against the sun

The sun reaches its high point roughly 50 minutes before noon here. It explains the 11:10 am Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

Ramadan timings

Stop eating by 3:45 am; break the fast at 5:22 pm. That is about 13 hours and 37 minutes on today's times. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

The direction of prayer

Turn east-north-east, about 67°, for the qibla. The distance works out to about 8,974 kilometres, or 5,576 miles.

A note on the method used

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

The shape of the day

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 3:45 am. You have until 4:59 am, when the sun comes up. Dhuhr 11:10 am, Asr 3:33 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib is prayed at 5:22 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 6:52 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 12 hours and 23 minutes.

Isha to Fajr

From Isha to Fajr is around 8 hours and 53 minutes at the moment. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.
