Prayer Times in Brasília, Brazil

Brasília, hour by hour

There is no national timetable behind this page — Brasília's times come from Brasília's own position, 15.79° S, 47.88° W. Two towns an hour apart see the sun rise at different moments, and since Fajr and Maghrib follow the sun rather than the clock, those minutes carry straight through to the timetable.

If you are fasting

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 4:19 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 6:15 pm. Around 13 hours and 56 minutes without food or water today. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

For tahajjud

Brasília gets roughly 8 hours and 34 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

How the day runs in Brasília

Everything begins with Fajr, 4:19 am today. By 5:36 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Next is Dhuhr at 11:55 am, then Asr in the afternoon at 4:20 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 6:15 pm; Isha is the last, at 7:45 pm. That is some 12 hours and 39 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

How the times are worked out

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Face east-north-east — roughly 69° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. Makkah is around 10,413 kilometres (6,470 miles) away in a straight line. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

What changes between summer and winter

Brasília sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.
