Prayer Times in Porangatu, Brazil

About the times on this page

Today runs to roughly 12 hours and 33 minutes of daylight in Porangatu, from sunrise at 5:44 am to sunset at 6:17 pm. None of the five are fixed to the clock — they follow the sun, and the sun keeps different hours in every month.

Qibla from Porangatu

Turn east-north-east, about 69°, for the qibla. The distance works out to about 10,446 kilometres, or 6,491 miles. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

A walk through today's times

The first call comes at 4:28 am, for Fajr. The sun appears at 5:44 am, which ends the Fajr period. Dhuhr 12:00 pm, Asr 4:22 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib is prayed at 6:17 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:47 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 12 hours and 33 minutes.

How much the times move

Porangatu is close enough to the equator that the seasons barely register in the prayer times. Longest day and shortest day differ by very little, and Ramadan feels much the same whichever month it lands in.

The fasting day in Porangatu

Stop eating by 4:28 am; break the fast at 6:17 pm. That is about 13 hours and 49 minutes on today's times. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The night in between

Between Isha at 7:47 pm and Fajr at 4:28 am there are about 8 hours and 41 minutes. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.

Method and madhab

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.
