Prayer Times in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Rio de Janeiro prayer times explained

Facing the Kaaba from Rio de Janeiro means turning east-north-east, roughly 68°. Makkah lies some 10,251 kilometres away, and the times on this page are calculated for this city specifically rather than for the country as a whole.

What changes between summer and winter

Rio de Janeiro sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.

Ramadan timings

Stop eating by 3:47 am; break the fast at 6:04 pm. That is about 14 hours and 17 minutes on today's times. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

Isha to Fajr

From Isha to Fajr is around 8 hours and 13 minutes at the moment. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.

Why your mosque may differ slightly

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

How the day runs in Rio de Janeiro
