Prayer Times in Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Belo Horizonte prayer times explained

Belo Horizonte gets about 12 hours and 49 minutes of daylight today, and the five prayer times are spaced across it. That number is the one driving the whole timetable: lengthen the day and Isha moves back, shorten it and the afternoon prayers crowd together.

Ramadan timings

Stop eating by 3:56 am; break the fast at 6:04 pm. That is about 14 hours and 8 minutes on today's times. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

The yearly swing

Belo Horizonte sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.

Lining up with the Kaaba

Turn east-north-east, about 68°, for the qibla. Makkah is around 10,195 kilometres (6,335 miles) away in a straight line. Compass apps usually read magnetic north rather than true north, so allow a few degrees of local declination if you are setting a prayer mat precisely.

Belo Horizonte today, prayer by prayer

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 3:56 am. Sunrise at 5:15 am closes that window. Next is Dhuhr at 11:39 am, then Asr in the afternoon at 4:10 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 6:04 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:34 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 12 hours and 49 minutes.

The night in between

Between Isha at 7:34 pm and Fajr at 3:56 am there are about 8 hours and 22 minutes. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

Other Brazil timetables

50 other cities in Brazil are listed on this site, each with its own calculated timetable. It is worth switching to the right one when you travel — a few hundred kilometres east or west moves Fajr and Maghrib by a noticeable margin.

The calculation behind them

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.
