Prayer Times in Recife, Brazil

What these times mean for Recife

The night in Recife runs about 8 hours and 53 minutes at the moment — Isha at 6:45 pm to Fajr at 3:38 am. Everything else on this page hangs off the same two points: when the sun sets and when it comes back.

Fasting hours

Stop eating by 3:38 am; break the fast at 5:15 pm. That is about 13 hours and 37 minutes on today's times. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

The yearly swing

Recife is close enough to the equator that the seasons barely register in the prayer times. Longest day and shortest day differ by very little, and Ramadan feels much the same whichever month it lands in.

Clock time and solar time

True midday in Recife arrives some 57 minutes before what the clock reads. That is why Dhuhr sits at 11:03 am rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. Nothing is wrong with the calculation; timezones are political lines, and the sun does not consult them.

From Fajr to Isha

The first call comes at 3:38 am, for Fajr. Sunrise at 4:52 am closes that window. Dhuhr 11:03 am, Asr 3:26 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib is prayed at 5:15 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 6:45 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 12 hours and 23 minutes.

Why your mosque may differ slightly

These times follow Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

The direction of prayer

Turn east-north-east, about 66°, for the qibla. Makkah is around 8,777 kilometres (5,454 miles) away in a straight line.
