Nearby cities

There are 50 more Brazil cities here, and each has its own times rather than sharing São João d’Aliança's. The list under the timetable below will take you to any of them.

Today's timetable

The day's first prayer, Fajr, falls at 4:19 am. You have until 5:35 am, when the sun comes up. Midday brings Dhuhr at 11:54 am; Asr comes round at 4:17 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 6:12 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:42 pm. That gives São João d’Aliança roughly 12 hours and 37 minutes of daylight today.

What changes between summer and winter

Near the equator the timetable is remarkably stable. São João d’Aliança sees close to twelve hours of daylight in every month, so Fajr and Maghrib move by minutes rather than hours across the year.

The fasting day in São João d’Aliança

Suhoor closes at 4:19 am in São João d’Aliança, with iftar at 6:12 pm. Roughly 13 hours and 53 minutes, going by today's figures. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

Qibla from São João d’Aliança

From this city the direction is east-north-east, or 69° if you prefer the number. The distance works out to about 10,333 kilometres, or 6,421 miles. Compass apps usually read magnetic north rather than true north, so allow a few degrees of local declination if you are setting a prayer mat precisely.

Method and madhab

The calculation used here is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.
