Prayer Times in Teresina, Brazil

Prayer times in Teresina

Facing the Kaaba from Teresina means turning east-north-east, roughly 68°. Makkah lies some 9,457 kilometres away, and the times on this page are calculated for this city specifically rather than for the country as a whole.

The night in between

Between Isha at 7:13 pm and Fajr at 4:13 am there are about 9 hours. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.

Fasting hours

The fasting day here runs 4:13 am to 5:43 pm: suhoor closes at the first, iftar comes at the second. Today it works out to some 13 hours and 30 minutes. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

Where these times come from

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.

Why Dhuhr lands where it does

True midday in Teresina arrives some 25 minutes before what the clock reads. Hence Dhuhr at 11:35 am, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

A walk through today's times

Fajr is at 4:13 am — early, and in darkness. The sun appears at 5:27 am, which ends the Fajr period. Dhuhr follows at 11:35 am once the sun has tipped past its highest point, and Asr at 3:57 pm. Maghrib comes with sunset at 5:43 pm, and Isha closes the day at 7:13 pm. Around 12 hours and 16 minutes of daylight, all told.

What changes between summer and winter

Near the equator the timetable is remarkably stable. Teresina sees close to twelve hours of daylight in every month, so Fajr and Maghrib move by minutes rather than hours across the year.
