Prayer Times in Austin, United States

Austin prayer times explained

There is a quirk worth knowing about prayer times in Austin: the clock and the sun are not on speaking terms. True midday arrives some 56 minutes after what the clock reads, putting Dhuhr at 12:56 pm and dragging Asr, Maghrib and Isha along behind it.

Where these times come from

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

For tahajjud

Between Isha at 7:37 pm and Fajr at 6:04 am there are about 10 hours and 27 minutes. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.

Ramadan timings

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 6:04 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 6:07 pm. Around 12 hours and 3 minutes without food or water today. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

The shape of the day

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 6:04 am. The window stays open until sunrise, 7:44 am. Dhuhr follows at 12:56 pm once the sun has tipped past its highest point, and Asr at 4:24 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 6:07 pm; Isha is the last, at 7:37 pm. That is some 10 hours and 23 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

How much the times move

Austin sees a large seasonal spread — very early summer Fajr times, a very late Isha, then a tightly packed winter day. The month view below is the reliable way to keep track.

Which way to face in Austin

Face north-east — roughly 44° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. Makkah is around 11,325 kilometres (7,037 miles) away in a straight line. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.
