Prayer Times in Coal, United States

Praying in Coal

In Coal the clock tells one story and the sun another, which is why the times below may look odd at first glance. Solar noon here falls about 50 minutes after twelve o'clock, so Dhuhr lands at 12:50 pm rather than just past midday, and the rest of the afternoon shifts with it.

What changes between summer and winter

Summer and winter look like different timetables entirely in Coal. The times can shift by several hours between the two ends of the year.

Face east-north-east — roughly 57° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. Makkah is around 10,483 kilometres (6,514 miles) away in a straight line. Worth remembering that a phone compass points to magnetic north, which can sit several degrees off true north depending on where you are.

Method and madhab

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

From Fajr to Isha

It starts in the dark, with Fajr at 5:59 am. The window stays open until sunrise, 7:34 am. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 12:50 pm, and Asr at 4:24 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 6:05 pm; Isha is the last, at 7:35 pm. That is some 10 hours and 31 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.
