Prayer Times in Fleming Island, United States

The prayer day in Fleming Island

Few cities on this site sit further from the Kaaba than Fleming Island: some 11,539 kilometres. At that range the great-circle route matters: the qibla from here runs north-east, about 55°, which surprises people expecting otherwise.

The calculation behind them

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. Where two calculations disagree it is nearly always Fajr or Isha: those depend on twilight, and twilight is a judgement call. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Local practice wins over any website, this one included.

A walk through today's times

Fajr opens the day at 6:17 am, well before first light. The window stays open until sunrise, 7:40 am. Dhuhr 1:10 pm, Asr 5:04 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. Maghrib comes with sunset at 6:40 pm, and Isha closes the day at 8:10 pm. Around 11 hours of daylight, all told.

Isha to Fajr

Between Isha at 8:10 pm and Fajr at 6:17 am there are about 10 hours and 7 minutes. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

Suhoor and iftar in Fleming Island

The fasting day here runs 6:17 am to 6:40 pm: suhoor closes at the first, iftar comes at the second. Today it works out to some 12 hours and 23 minutes. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The clock against the sun

The sun reaches its high point roughly 70 minutes after noon here. It explains the 1:10 pm Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

Through the year

Fleming Island sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.
