Prayer Times in Detroit, United States

About the times on this page

Detroit prays Fajr at 6:25 am today, with Maghrib at 6:29 pm and Isha at 7:59 pm. Those times shift by a minute or two most days as the sun moves, and this page recalculates them every morning rather than holding a fixed list.

Other United States timetables

There are 105 more United States cities here, and each has its own times rather than sharing Detroit's. It is worth switching to the right one when you travel — a few hundred kilometres east or west moves Fajr and Maghrib by a noticeable margin.

A walk through today's times

Everything begins with Fajr, 6:25 am today. The sun appears at 8:02 am, which ends the Fajr period. Midday brings Dhuhr at 1:16 pm; Asr comes round at 4:48 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 6:29 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:59 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 27 minutes.

Finding the qibla

Turn north-east, about 52°, for the qibla. Makkah is around 10,823 kilometres (6,725 miles) away in a straight line. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.

A note on the method used

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

A quirk of the timezone

True midday in Detroit arrives some 76 minutes after what the clock reads. Hence Dhuhr at 1:16 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. This catches people out regularly, but prayer follows the sun, and the clock is only the label we put on it.

Ramadan timings

Stop eating by 6:25 am; break the fast at 6:29 pm. That is about 12 hours and 4 minutes on today's times. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.
