Prayer Times in Houston, United States

Prayer times in Houston

There is a quirk worth knowing about prayer times in Houston: the clock and the sun are not on speaking terms. Solar noon here falls about 65 minutes after twelve o'clock, so Dhuhr lands at 1:05 pm rather than just past midday, and the rest of the afternoon shifts with it.

From Fajr to Isha

Everything begins with Fajr, 6:11 am today. Sunrise at 7:34 am closes that window. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 1:05 pm, and Asr at 4:59 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 6:36 pm; Isha is the last, at 8:06 pm. That is some 11 hours and 2 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

Which way to face in Houston

Face north-east — roughly 45° on a compass — and you are pointed at the Kaaba. That puts the Kaaba roughly 12,574 km — 7,813 miles — from here. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.

The calculation behind them

Calculations come from Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

Ramadan timings

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 6:11 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 6:36 pm. Around 12 hours and 25 minutes without food or water today. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The night in between

Houston gets roughly 10 hours and 5 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.

Season by season in Houston

Across the year the Houston timetable shifts by an hour or two at each end — long summer evenings push Isha back, short winter days crowd Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib together.
