Prayer Times in Natchez, United States

Natchez prayer times explained

Natchez is a long way from Makkah — about 12,161 kilometres (7,557 miles) in a straight line. Over that distance the shortest path curves noticeably, which is why the qibla here points north-east (48°) rather than the direction a flat map would suggest.

Why Dhuhr lands where it does

Solar noon in Natchez falls about 49 minutes after twelve o'clock. Hence Dhuhr at 12:49 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

The fasting day in Natchez

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 5:55 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 6:19 pm. Around 12 hours and 24 minutes without food or water today. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

A note on the method used

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

From Fajr to Isha

The first call comes at 5:55 am, for Fajr. The sun appears at 7:19 am, which ends the Fajr period. Dhuhr follows at 12:49 pm once the sun has tipped past its highest point, and Asr at 4:42 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 6:19 pm; Isha is the last, at 7:49 pm. That is some 11 hours between the sun coming up and going down.

Through the year

Natchez sits far enough from the equator for the difference to be felt. Midsummer stretches the day, midwinter compresses it, and the prayer times follow.
