Prayer Times in Queens, United States

Praying in Queens

Praying in Queens means facing a point roughly 10,289 kilometres off, around the curve of the world. At that range the great-circle route matters: the qibla from here runs east-north-east, about 59°, which surprises people expecting otherwise.

Queens today, prayer by prayer

The first call comes at 5:48 am, for Fajr. The sun appears at 7:23 am, which ends the Fajr period. Next is Dhuhr at 12:39 pm, then Asr in the afternoon at 4:13 pm. Sunset brings Maghrib at 5:54 pm; Isha is the last, at 7:24 pm. That is some 10 hours and 31 minutes between the sun coming up and going down.

Fasting hours

Suhoor ends at Fajr — 5:48 am today — and the fast breaks at Maghrib, 5:54 pm. Around 12 hours and 6 minutes without food or water today. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

Method and madhab

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib are largely settled across methods; Fajr and Isha are where authorities part company. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. A small gap between this page and your nearest masjid is nothing to worry about; go with theirs.

A quirk of the timezone

True midday in Queens arrives some 39 minutes after what the clock reads. That is why Dhuhr sits at 12:39 pm rather than just past midday, and it carries through to Asr, Maghrib and Isha as well. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

The yearly swing

Summer and winter look like different timetables entirely in Queens. The times can shift by several hours between the two ends of the year.

For tahajjud

Queens gets roughly 10 hours and 24 minutes of night between the last prayer and the first. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.
