Prayer Times in Riverside, United States

Praying in Riverside

The times below are worked out for Riverside itself, from the city's own coordinates (41.03° N, 73.58° W). A city an hour down the road will have times a few minutes apart from these, which is exactly why a country-wide timetable is a rough guide at best.

The fasting day in Riverside

Stop eating by 5:47 am; break the fast at 5:52 pm. That is about 12 hours and 5 minutes on today's times. The full month is listed below if you want to see where the fast is heading.

The night in between

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 25 minutes at the moment. For anyone praying tahajjud, the last third of that period is the part traditionally singled out — work back from Fajr rather than forward from Isha to find it.

A walk through today's times

The first call comes at 5:47 am, for Fajr. By 7:23 am the sun is up and Fajr's time has passed. Midday brings Dhuhr at 12:38 pm; Asr comes round at 4:11 pm. Maghrib is prayed at 5:52 pm as the light goes, then Isha at 7:22 pm. Sunrise to sunset, today runs about 10 hours and 29 minutes.

Why your mosque may differ slightly

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. The disagreement between methods lives almost entirely in Fajr and Isha, where the sun is below the horizon and the chosen angle decides the time. For Asr this page uses the Hanafi position — later in the day than the majority view. If the mosque down the road announces something a few minutes different, pray with the mosque.

Why Dhuhr lands where it does

Solar noon in Riverside falls about 38 minutes after twelve o'clock. It explains the 12:38 pm Dhuhr — the timezone boundary is drawn some way from this city's own meridian. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

Qibla from Riverside

Turn east-north-east, about 59°, for the qibla. Makkah is around 10,257 kilometres (6,374 miles) away in a straight line. If you are marking a permanent direction in a room, check true north rather than trusting a phone compass alone.

Season by season in Riverside

Summer and winter look like different timetables entirely in Riverside. The times can shift by several hours between the two ends of the year.
