Prayer Times in San Jose, United States

San Jose, hour by hour

There are around 10 hours and 41 minutes between sunrise and sunset in San Jose today. That number is the one driving the whole timetable: lengthen the day and Isha moves back, shorten it and the afternoon prayers crowd together.

A note on the method used

Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah is the standard applied to this page. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr here follows the Hanafi reckoning, which places it noticeably later in the afternoon than the other schools would. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.

How the day runs in San Jose

Fajr is at 6:00 am — early, and in darkness. You have until 7:30 am, when the sun comes up. Dhuhr 12:51 pm, Asr 4:32 pm — the two that carry the middle of the day. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 6:11 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:41 pm. That gives San Jose roughly 10 hours and 41 minutes of daylight today.

Clock time and solar time

Solar noon in San Jose falls about 51 minutes after twelve o'clock. Hence Dhuhr at 12:51 pm, with the rest of the afternoon following along behind it. It is not an error — timezones are drawn for administrative convenience, not astronomical accuracy.

How much the times move

The yearly swing here is substantial. In June, Fajr in San Jose can fall in the small hours with Isha holding off until late evening; in December the whole day from Fajr to Isha is over in a short span. Check the monthly timetable rather than assuming last season's times still hold.

The fasting day in San Jose

Suhoor closes at 6:00 am in San Jose, with iftar at 6:11 pm. Roughly 12 hours and 11 minutes, going by today's figures. The monthly table further down shows the window widening or narrowing day by day, which helps when planning meals a week ahead.

The last third of the night

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 19 minutes at the moment. If you pray tahajjud, the final third of that stretch is the one to aim for; counting backwards from Fajr is the easier way to locate it.
