Prayer Times in Shafter, United States

Shafter prayer times explained

Shafter sits at an awkward spot inside its timezone, and the prayer times show it. The sun reaches its highest point roughly 40 minutes after noon, which is why Dhuhr is listed at 12:40 pm.

The calculation behind them

The underlying method is Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah. Methods differ mainly over Fajr and Isha, because each authority settles on a slightly different angle of the sun below the horizon — a few minutes either way is normal. Asr is Hanafi on this page, so expect it later than a Shafi timetable would show. Where your local mosque differs, follow the mosque — that is the timetable the congregation keeps.

Suhoor and iftar in Shafter

Suhoor closes at 5:48 am in Shafter, with iftar at 6:05 pm. Roughly 12 hours and 17 minutes, going by today's figures. Scroll to the month view to see how the length changes as Ramadan progresses.

Isha to Fajr

From Isha to Fajr is around 10 hours and 13 minutes at the moment. The final third of the night carries particular weight in the tradition, and it is measured from Isha to Fajr rather than by the clock.

How much the times move

Shafter sees a large seasonal spread — very early summer Fajr times, a very late Isha, then a tightly packed winter day. The month view below is the reliable way to keep track.

The shape of the day

The day's first prayer, Fajr, falls at 5:48 am. You have until 7:16 am, when the sun comes up. After the sun peaks, Dhuhr is prayed at 12:40 pm, and Asr at 4:26 pm. The sun goes down at Maghrib, 6:05 pm, and the day ends with Isha at 7:35 pm. That gives Shafter roughly 10 hours and 49 minutes of daylight today.
